OUR PLACE
Labor Day occurs on Monday, September 5th, and is traditionally celebrated as a long weekend with family and friends.
Labor Day pays tribute to the contributions and achievements of American Workers and is traditionally observed on the first Monday in September. Labor Day was declared a national holiday in 1894, shortly after thousands of workers took to the streets in Chicago demanding an eight-hour workday. This Labor Day occurs on Monday, September 5th, and is traditionally celebrated as a long weekend with family and friends, and not at the office.
Labor Day has also become an end of summer and welcomes to fall traditional celebration. The weather starts to cool, kids are heading back to school, and the fall holidays are getting planned. Take the weekend to reminisce about a fond summer of memories, get excited about the season change and winter fun to come, and relax. Work can wait.
The Riviera Ballroom Award Ceremony will take place Wednesday, August 31, 2022.
From 10 a.m. through 12 p.m. in the Riviera at 812 Wrigley Drive, the Historic Society Board will be presenting the Riviera a top honor award and highlighting the preservation of historical detail in the recent renovations. The Riviera renovations were planned with great detail, to preserve as much original work as possible. A lot of time and money was spent to get it there. City officials are excited and proud of the iconic building and are hoping residents come to celebrate. With most of the city council members expected to attend the event, the city sent out a quorum notice to comply with Wisconsin’s open meeting law. The city’s mayor, Charlene Klein, probably won’t get an award but what a wonderful, magnificent, and determined leader she was to spearhead the renovations of the Riviera project. Nice work, mayor!
