These numbers, set in bold type, are statute codes of Wisconsin law, specifically banning the requirement of municipalities from requiring residency in city or town limits as a condition of employment. The Lake Geneva City Council, last Monday, voted to strike Lake Geneva’s residency requirements from the books. David Nord, the city administrator who lives in Rockford, Illinois (53.7 miles away), was the case in point that was used as a motivator for the change. David was already enjoying the benefit of a geographic waiver from the council, so there’s no effect on or to him. The age-old argument about whether employees who live very distantly from the city can have enough personal investment, interest, and attention to really effectively work on the city’s behalf will remain just that, merely an argument.
The Geneva Shore Report itself has two employees who live in the city proper, one in Elkhorn, one living in Wauconda, Il, one in Lake Forest, Il, one living in Washington State (doing work online), and one living in Town of Linn. The paper’s ability to focus and give full attention to what’s happening in and around Lake Geneva hasn’t been much affected by geographic locations about where employees live. David Nord seems to be doing a good job to date, no matter where he’s been living.

Kyle Peterson is the very fun waitress at the Elk Restaurant. Every small café would be lucky to have a Kyle on its staff.
