OUR PLACE
Daddy Maxwell’s is now open.
Hooray! The original restaurant closed years back, but new owners have swept in and reopened with nearly the same menu and ambiance that locals and visitors have come to love. Marshall and Jeanette Maxwell bought the diner in 1987 and renamed it Daddy Maxwell’s Antarctic Circle Diner. Jeanette was a well-known figure in the Williams Bay community, known for her cooking and baking. She was also a volunteer for many local organizations and charities. Jeanette was the sole owner for a few years before her death. The diner stayed open for a while but eventually closed with no one taking over.
Now they are back and ready to welcome past friends and new ones into the new diner. Hours for now are Friday 6 a.m. to 2 p.m., Sat. 6 a.m. to 2 p.m. and Sun 6 a.m. to 1 p.m. The first few days will be cash only as the owners wait for their credit card machine to arrive. The fish fry will be coming soon. This place is a historical part of the lake communities, as famous as the Yerkes Observatory but not cold as the driven snow (like that place called Yerkes, beautiful, but like Elvira, don’t get too close).
Get close to the people at Daddy’s place there. They will even be taking credit cards soon, a first, and welcome relief to all of us who love to go there, eat, and just hang out.
