The 28th Annual Winterfest is two weeks away.
OnFebruary 1st through February 5th the fun begins. The highlight as always is the U.S. National Snow Sculpting Championship. Fifteen award-winning sculpting teams will work for three days creating amazing snow sculptures. The sculpting will begin on Wednesday, February 1st, at 11 a.m., and conclude on Saturday for judging at 1 p.m. So much more winter fun to enhance the week. Downtown Lake Geneva will be adorned with fabulous ice sculptures, bonfires on the beach will be back, live entertainment, and more. Locals begin the fun a few days before the official start of Winterfest with the creation of the giant snow blocks. The fifteen blocks begin with forms and are filled with snow trucked in from Grand Geneva’s Majestic Ski Resort and are compacted by the human stompers. Get ready for a busy week in Lake Geneva with tons of excitement.

Alexis Rinella and Pat Solheim showed up at the meeting of the plan commission on Monday night. They were there to have the opportunity to discuss the potential development of a one-acre plot located adjacent to their homes. Alexis, Pat, and their nearby neighbors, all live on one-acre plots with single family homes built upon them. The three-home development runs totally in opposition to that kind of neighborhood culture and there’s little question that short term rentals might be behind the whole affair, as having a single shared driveway for three homes is pretty much like pouring in a concrete war zone for regular dwelling construction.
Mr. Engerman, the builder, denies that the idea of vacation rentals ever crossed his mind, almost to the point, in his innocent presentation, that he might be a baker or bouncer instead of a professional developer and builder. He did state, after the meeting and his presentation, that he would consider have written agreements drawn up to prevent buyers of the spec homes from allowing short term rentals. State law does not allow for such agreements to be valid, so far anyway, under current conditions. Lake Geneva has a population of many wonderful people, which includes Alexis and Pat. Mr. Engerman is from Town of Linn, and he’s a pretty great, and brilliant, man himself. Somehow, by the final set of hearings on this development, some middle or common ground should be found.
