OUR PLACE
The lagoon boat slip renters have been displaced for multiple seasons now, with no return date.
The piers, harbor, and lakefront committee discussed three different options for the lagoon renters to potentially get back on the water in the future. The discussion regarding the different options to integrate the lagoon renters into the West End Pier waitlist by date of initial application and waitlist process could look a few different ways. The lagoon slip renters are not happy with the way this has all worked out. At first, they were happy to give up a season for some much-needed maintenance and improvements to the lagoon. Then they held onto hope when the city couldn’t confirm if or when the slips would return. Now that the slips are confirmed not return, the renters are looking for some other option to get back to boating.
The West End Pier has the best potential for accommodating them; however, the West End Pier has a substantial number already on its waitlist. Incorporating the lagoon slip renters to this already established waitlist will knock some off the list, making them further away from getting a slip. The committee realizes this and has accepted the fact that they are not going to please everyone. The committee recommended approval and has sent the agenda item to the city council. The Lake Geneva Piers, Harbor, and Lakefront Committee is hoping to come up with a better plan and accommodate more residents and property owners of Lake Geneva with the privilege of renting a boat slip. Potentially, this could mean more boats slip to rent. The committee is hoping to have a comprehensive plan for the lakefront in the near future.
