OUR PLACE
The Corp!
Monday night, the Lake Geneva City Council discussed the Comprehensive Outdoor Recreation Planning (CORP), which was recommended by the Piers, Harbor, and Lakefront Committee and the Park Board last week. Lake Geneva has over four hundred acres of parkland at twenty different sites. The city needed and finally has a Parks Department after decades of managing parks under the public works department.
With a standalone parks department and a dedicated parks director, the parks, along with the lakefront, can be thought of together. The partnership of the parks department and the Piers, Harbor, and Lakefront Committee for strategic planning can happen. The city is looking for recommendations in long-term stewardship of public assets, including practical design decisions, operational strategies, investments, maintenance, responsible use of resources, and taxpayer value.
The CORP should help the city in all areas in the future. The CORP will serve the city with grants and fundraising opportunities, strategic decisions, lakefront operation assessments, organization, and community vision, creating success for generations to come. The city, along with the Park Board and Piers, Harbor, and Lakefront Committee, recommends that an RFP be sent out seeking a consultant team that understands Lake Geneva’s needs and has experience with both municipal parks planning and waterfront operations planning. The city voted to move ahead with the CORP.
