OUR PLACE

Memorial Day weekend is less than a week away.
Monday, May 26, 2025, is the unofficial start of summer. The Riviera Beach is ready for summer. Swim piers are in. Kiosks are available for purchasing beach passes. Lifeguards will be on duty. The summer season has begun. As always, Memorial Day weekend will be extremely busy, and Lake Geneva will be full of excitement. The shops, the restaurants, and the hotels are ready. Memorial Day would not be complete without the traditional Memorial Day festivities. The Memorial Day parade starts at 10 a.m. in front of Horticultural Hall and goes through the downtown, ending at Flat Iron Park. Lake Geneva’s Ceremonial Flag and Memorial Day Ceremony will be in Flat Iron Park.

The memorial Ceremony is the highlight of the day and all about the men and women who sacrifice so much for us all. Memorial Day is dedicated to the remembrance of the service men and women who died in active military duty. We don’t know them all, but we owe them all, thank you. The first official day of summer is Thursday, June 20th, but here in Lake Geneva weekends are expected to be full swing as if it has already begun. Happy Summer.

What’s good and not so good in Lake Geneva?
It’s good that the council, city administrator, and mayor are not falling for the garbage that the Towers are handing out in trying to prevent those condo owners from shifting their part of the expense of repairs to the taxpayers instead of paying it out of their own pockets as has been done over the years. It’s also good that the city has sort of pulled in its horns to wait and see what is going to happen shortly to the economy, interest rates, and loan capability. It’s also good that Peter Wilson, the school’s superintendent, was able to masterfully guide the public into supporting the last referendum (overwhelmingly) to keep the local schools functioning and healthy.

What’s not so good? The potholes are not being repaired on Main Street and summer is approaching fast. The traffic signals have not been adjusted to meet the coming demand of heavy summer traffic either and Channel 25 is still no functional as a means for the general public to tune in, follow and yes, hear what is being said at those meetings from the comfort of home.
