OUR PLACE

The Riviera appears on target to be done by the middle of May.
The original contract completion date of the 15th of May, and by the progress that has been made, the site gives every appearance that all construction work will be completed by that date.  The renovation, to the untrained eyes of Geneva Shore Report X-Files investigators, appears rather quietly unimpressive, particularly the downstairs that had come to resemble some old moldy Coney Island sort of arcade center.  That old feeling seems to have been maintained, with two fewer shops than had been leased before.  No real changes could be noted, although the upstairs ballroom truly benefited from all the money and work time spent on it.

The outside of Lake Geneva’s signature building continued with the ridiculous polka-dotted roof, wherein only a lot of time going by can be hoped to fix it.  The new windows look strange but okay.  Maybe the charm of the building is all tied up in the rather obvious fact that the entire menagerie of features holding it all together don’t really go together at all.  The Riviera has been under construction for what seems like forever. The exterior work began last spring and the interior began as soon as the summer season of 2020 ended. The first event in the newly renovated Riviera Ballroom was a wedding last Saturday and it was a huge success. The MSI work crews did a great job of cleaning up any signs of construction for the event. Of course, work continued Monday morning. The first-floor concourse has work to be done.

On Monday painting and door replacement and refurbishing was the big focus. After touring the Riviera and talking with Sam (aka keeper of the Riviera) and MSI workers, the project is expected to be completed on time. The schedule for opening the Riviera has been, and still is, Memorial Day Weekend. In order for this to happen the first floor needs to be completed by the middle of May, less than two weeks away. The retail shops can then move in equipment, product, and signage in anticipation of opening. The entire town seems to be anxiously awaiting the big opening, as well. Three and a half weeks to go and the big kick-off to summer is here with Memorial Day weekend and the Riviera opening. The Riviera Grand Opening Celebration will soon follow on July 15, 2021!
