OUR PLACE
It’s time to prepare for the next holiday.
Thanksgiving is in the works, and the 18th annual Walworth County Community Thanksgiving Dinner is scheduled. The dinner will be on the traditional Thanksgiving holiday, November 27th, from 11 a.m. through 2 p.m. Thanksgiving sometimes seems to be forgotten, especially by commercial entities, but for many it is a time to slow down, enjoy blessings, reconnect with friends and family, and reflect on what’s important.
It’s also a great prelude to the Christmas season. Walworth County Complimentary Dinner is a big deal and has been a part of the Giving Season, providing a wonderful Thanksgiving meal to those who want it, and bringing the community together. It also makes for a great social event. Donations have been pouring in from all over. All food is being donated, and volunteers cook and serve the meal. A beautiful example of the wonderful people who make the county so great. The dinner will be on Thanksgiving Day, November 27th, from 11 a.m. through 2 p.m. at Water’s Edge, 1220 South Shore Drive on Delavan Lake. This year, food delivery will once again be available by the Boy Scouts. All orders for delivery must be placed by November 21st by 5 p.m. To schedule an order or make a donation, call 262-749-4621.
The holiday mailing and shipping season is traditionally the busiest period for USPS, testing the resiliency of America’s mail delivery infrastructure.
For 2025, USPS has made substantial investments in technology, workforce, and facility expansions in an effort to improve service reliability and customer experience. USPS updated its standards in July, aiming for a two- to three-day regional mail and package turnaround to increase speed and reliability. Effective from midnight on October 5, 2025, to January 18, 2026, the USPS will implement temporary price changes for Priority Mail Express, Priority Mail, USPS Ground Advantage, and Parcel Select to cover holiday-related costs. The adjustments will affect prices on Priority Mail Express, Priority Mail, USPS Ground Advantage, and Parcel Select.
The changes will remain in place until midnight Central on Sunday, Jan. 18. The changes will help cover extra handling costs and bring prices for the Postal Service’s commercial and retail customers in line with competitive practices. They have also announced recommended shipping deadlines for packages to arrive before Christmas, with the latest being the Priority Mail Express deadline on December 20 for the contiguous U.S. The USPS said that in its facilities and processing capabilities over the past four years in order to meet the delivery needs of its customers.
