OUR PLACE
This Thursday, October 31st is Halloween, and many families will be heading out for the traditional Trick or Treat fun.
The weather on this day is always a big deal. Kids want to show off their costumes in full and parents want to make sure kids are dressed appropriately for the weather. In this area the weather is not consistent at this time of year, meaning some years it’s ok to wear just the costumes, and other years full winter gear is needed. It looks like this Halloween is going to be in the middle.
The historical average is approximately a high of 53 and a low of 33. As with many years, last year was an exception with a high of only 36 and a low of 23 and lots of snow. Trick or Treating in 2023 was memorable with it looking more like the Christmas season rather than Halloween. Of course, it didn’t last long as the day after it got up to 62 degrees and rained melting the Halloween snow. This year it is expected to be closer to the average with a high of 55 and a low of 47.
Whatever the weather, families will make do and accommodate appropriately and continue with the traditional Halloween festivities. Happy Halloween. Halloween has traditionally been a candy feast for children across the country for over a hundred years. It’s a shame that some municipalities have changed the date for this fun adventure. Lake Geneva is one of those places. Too bad.
Daylight savings comes to an end this Sunday, November 3rd, 2024.
Millions of people will turn back their clocks. This adjustment of springing forward and falling back an hour many dreads. The later part which we are coming upon is the easier of the two for some as we gain an hour of sleep. Others dread the falling back due to days being shorter this time of year and daylight ending very early in the day. Dozens of states consider adopting proposals every year to make daylight savings permanent doing away with the turning back of the clocks, however, without new movement at the federal level, Americans can expect the clock changes to continue.
Sleep disturbances are apparent during time changes and take some a little longer to adjust. Waking and going to sleep close to the same time every day makes the transition easier and shorter. A good attitude also helps, and enjoying the changes each season brings is a great attitude to have and helps many get through on a positive note.
