The potholes that plague Main Street are bad and cannot wait to be fixed.
The big Main Street construction project is coming up in the next couple of years and the city was trying to hold out and save some money. The residents of Lake Geneva have voiced concerns and want the potholes fixed sooner rather than later. It has become more than a simple annoyance and the integrity of the vehicles is being affected. The residents who drive Main Street are concerned that the repeated beating their cars are enduring they will be looking at major problems that aren’t cheap to fix.
City officials know the problem requires immediate attention and have decided to finally look for solutions that would hold until the roadway is completely redone in 2027 and 2028. The Finance, License, and Regulation Committee met last Tuesday to discuss what could be done, how long it would hold, and recommend a funding source. The committee was in unanimous agreement that the potholes needed immediate attention. The timing was a concern, and the committee wanted to do what it could to get the job done before the weather changed.
The funding source was located but needed a change order done ASAP. The funding is to come out of the monies budgeted for the Lake Geneva DPW driveway which did not get final approval to be done this budget season. The Finance, License, and Regulation Committee had a special meeting to get the changes done quickly. The recommendation for approval was sent to the council for approval. Once all approvals are complete and the holes can be filled. The goal is to have it all fixed this fall and fingers crossed it holds until the State HWY 50 project begins.
