OUR PLACE
Lake Geneva is the hometown of bestselling author Gary Gygax, and the birthplace of the world’s first role-playing game, Dungeons & Dragons!
It is also the home of Gary’s original game company, TSR, that produced not only D&D but scores of popular games and hundreds of fantasy and sci-fi novels. In honor of him and D&D, the Dragon Days Fall Fantasy Festival will be returning to Lake Geneva at the beginning of October.
Now through October 4th, Dragon Days is partnering with the Lake Geneva Public Library for a Dungeon Crawl. The library has hidden mystical artifacts throughout its shelves, and your mission is to find them. Once your quest is complete, report your findings to Ye Olde Magic Shoppe at the Fantasy Faire during the festival and claim your prizes. This is a family-friendly hunt for all ages.
New staff and function recommendations were discussed at the last meeting.
The city administrator could get an assistant in the future, and a new short-term rental code enforcement position will be created. The city administrator is a professional who is responsible for managing the day-to-day operations of the city government. With all that goes on in the city and amongst city officials, the need for an assistant is easily justified.
The assistant will represent the city administrator in all interactions. The assistant will be required to perform duties assigned or assumed under the guidance of the administrator. Coordinating volunteer activities, staff training, IT management, grant writing, and more. The attendance of city meetings is vital, along with the writing of newsletters and memos.
This is a very general summary of the assistant’s position, and many more details are included in the formal layout. The assistant will have high levels of education and experience to qualify for the job. The short-term controversy has been a big concern for many residents and city officials. The efficient and effective management of short-term rentals has been the goal of the city for some time, and with the tools now available for just that, the city needs someone to oversee short-term rentals. The short-term code enforcer will manage the rental process, including onsite inspections and code enforcement. This position will work under the supervision of the building and zoning director and the assistant in zoning code enforcement, as needed. This is a very important position in Lake Geneva due to all the short-term rental issues it has. The person filling this job will need certifications and an associate’s degree. The ability to work evenings and weekends is a must.
The personnel committee has sent the proposed positions forward to the council for approval. With the support of the city administrator, the Lake Geneva City Council met Monday evening to vote on the issue.
