OUR PLACE
The Lake Geneva City Administrator apparently did have a video conference last week with the people at Spectrum.
He was also on a phone call with government affairs. Spectrum did provide a quote for peg services under the new standard definition of digital service because we must migrate off analog. The quote came in between $10,000 and $11,000, depending on which option the city picks.
Unfortunately, Spectrum was not able to answer all the administrator’s questions, and so he’s waiting to hear back with the answers. After all the back and forth with Spectrum, the administrator spoke with the people of government affairs and asked how they would apply these charges under the state statute that requires all assessed peg channel operations to charge the actual cable subscribers, not charge the general population. The city administrator is still waiting to hear back from them on that and expects that to be in the next week or two. They did, however, answer the time frame for implementing such services, and the answer was typical. This change in service takes around 6 to 9 months.
The administrator pushed further, stating that we already have a peg service, and the engineer who comes out could use our existing fiber line, but they would not commit to anything under that time frame. Stay tuned, and hopefully at the next meeting, the administrator will have a better update and, sooner rather than later, have a decision on how to move forward with the issue.
The GSR staff is certain that the fact that the Channel 25 service will have been out for one complete cycle of elected officials from the last election to the next is nothing more than a mere coincidence.
