The Milwaukee Brewers.
This team has been the hottest team in Major League Baseball over the last few months. The Brewers have dealt with injuries left and right, but the pitching has helped Milwaukee navigate through them. There are plenty of factors that have played into Milwaukee turning things around. Good health in the starting rotation arguably is the top thing that has changed for Milwaukee. The Brewers’ rotation is loaded. Freddy Peralta, Quinn Priester, José Quintana, Jacob Misiorowski, and Brandon Woodruff are all healthy and thriving.
Milwaukee’s offense has been better over the last few months as well. One thing that has helped with this has been the turnaround of slugger Christian Yelich. The 33-year-old has been playing at a superstar level recently. Over the last 49 games, Yelich has slashed .314/.381/.546 with 12 home runs, 44 RBIs, five stolen bases, nine doubles, and 37 runs scored. In comparison, in his first 67 games of the season, Yelich slashed .231/.317/.406 with 13 home runs and 42 RBIs. Longtime Brewers star Christian Yelich is swinging a Bob Uecker tribute bat that he waited a full year to carry to home plate, marking a 12-game winning streak. Yelich’s four-hit, five-RBI night and shutdown relief from a bullpen called into early action behind an ineffective Jacob Misiorowski added up to the 13th comeback victory in franchise history after a deficit of seven or more runs, and a 13th consecutive win for these Brewers, who have matched 1987’s “Team Streak” for the longest winning spree in franchise history.
According to Elias, it was the biggest comeback in MLB history to extend a winning streak to 13 or more games. If Yelich can stay healthy throughout the rest of the season and stay this level of play, this Brewers team can make some noise. Milwaukee is getting contributions from all across the roster. Yelich is the biggest name player on the team but isn’t the only one doing damage night in and night out.
The Milwaukee Bucks.
The Bucks’ 2025-2026 schedule has been released. The Bucks will not be playing on Christmas for a second straight season. Last year, Giannis Antetokounmpo could not understand why the Bucks were not playing on Christmas, and now he will have to try to figure that out again. Before getting left off last season’s schedule, Antetokounmpo and the Bucks had played on Dec. 25 for six consecutive seasons. The Bucks’ national TV presence is shrinking as well, with only 13 nationally televised games for the 2025-26 season. Despite Antetokounmpo’s status as the leading vote getter in each of the last two NBA All-Star Games, that is the lowest number of national TV games for the Bucks since the team first rose to prominence in the 2018-19 season, Antetokounmpo’s first NBA MVP season. It is somewhat remarkable to see the Bucks with fewer games on the league’s national TV schedule, despite Antetokounmpo’s popularity seemingly at an all-time high. This season’s opener on Oct. 22 will be Middleton’s first game back in Milwaukee as a member of a different team.
This offseason, the Bucks moved on from center Brook Lopez. After seven successful seasons in Milwaukee, the 37-year-old center signed with the Los Angeles Clippers. While the Bucks will get to have their reunion with Middleton early in the season, their first chance to go against Splash Mountain will not come around until March 23 in Los Angeles. Lopez’s homecoming in Milwaukee will happen six days later.
The Green Bay Packers.
The team continued training camp this week. The Packers play the Seahawks at 3 p.m. Saturday, Aug. 23, at Lambeau Field in their last preseason game. It’s a big week for a lot of the players because the cutdown deadline is 3 p.m. Tuesday, Aug. 26. Quarterback Jordan Love had his first action in returning to practice after having surgery on his left thumb last week. He is also taking part in individual drills with the skill players. An equipment manager is snapping the ball to the quarterbacks, but with Love, he’s basically letting him grab it out of his hands. In a shotgun snap drill, Love isn’t taking snaps. Instead, he’s starting with the ball in his hands. He handed off with his right hand on one of his turns. In the team walkthrough, he stood well behind the drill and mirrored what the quarterback was doing.
Love has the same brace on his thumb that he wore Saturday at the preseason game against the Indianapolis Colts. He has been out with a torn ligament in his left thumb. He had surgery on the thumb last week, but is expected to be ready for Week 1 of the regular season. Willis, quarterback-in-waiting, stays pacing backstage. His true talent, and the man does have talent, lies dormant while Love gets the love and thumbs his nose. So, to speak.
