The Green Bay Packers.
Jordon Love gets the highest salary ever given to any player in the NFL.  The Packers are coming to prove that the ‘green’ in their title name does not come from the bay locale where they are based.  Was the consensus to simply throw that kind of money at him based upon his last ten games when he did very well, but not by any means spectacular compared to other quarterbacks much better seasoned and already have ‘come of age’ in the majors? What about the other players on the team?  They are supposed to quietly just agree that Love is the greatest there ever has been, or at least is going to be the greatest in the future. Is Love ready for the pressure that’s just been heaped upon him for the very first game of the season? Is he ready for those players on the team who might want to dial back just a little to let Love and the management team know that they are not some rock groups called Love and the Packers? In truth, as the GSR is made up of all Packer fans, it is easy to poll the staff to discover that not one of them thinks that Love comes close (not yet) to the exhibitions put on by both Favre and Rodgers in their primes.

The Milwaukee Brewers. The Milwaukee Brewers received the best news possible regarding the fate of their franchise and the 2024 season. As most teams were dealing with the trade deadline the Brewers were focused on the outcome of their season and one of their star players. Thankfully, their season appears to be back on track after a star outfielder was facing a decision on a season-ending surgery but has pivoted in a less dramatic direction. Christian Yelich intends to rest and rehab his back rather than undergo surgery that would have ended his season. Yelich is hitting .315 with 26 extra-base hits including 11 home runs, 42 RBIs and a .910 OPS (153 OPS+) in 73 games this season. The three-time All-Star has been dealing with a lower-back injury for the past several seasons and was recently placed on the 10-day injured list for the second time this year and is now facing a decision to go have surgery or wait it out. As luck would have it, Yelich is opting to finish out the 2024 campaign and continue to be a huge part of the Brewers World Series title run. There is no timetable for the 32-year-old’s return to action or rehab stint yet, but if the injury is of the same extent as earlier this year, he could be back in the majors in a few weeks. The 32-year-old took a different tone when discussing his injury, saying he’ll need to consider both “what’s going to be the best for the near future and into the future.”

With the Milwaukee Brewers boasting the third-best record in the National League fans are relieved to know that Yelich is not going anywhere but offseason back surgery is a real possibility. This news is somewhat reassuring given the initial concern about the severity of Yelich’s injury.
