SURPRISING STUFF

Boating season started early this year with the unusually warm weather April has brought us.
Unfortunately, the beginning of the season has already brought the first fatality on Geneva Lake for the 2026 season. Police said they were dispatched to Gordy’s Marine for a water rescue at 8 p.m. on April 16th. The Wisconsin Department of Natural Resources said three people were trying to dock a boat.

One of them, a 57-year-old Wisconsin woman, fell into the water. Emergency responders were able to free the woman from the propeller, but she was later pronounced dead on the scene, police said. Lt. Drew Starch said the woman was a Wisconsin resident. No other people were injured. Police said the boat’s driver cooperated with investigators, and charges have not been filed. An investigation by the Wisconsin Department of Natural Resources is ongoing in conjunction with the Fontana Police Department and Walworth County Sheriff’s Office. Our thoughts and prayers go out to the victim’s family and friends, along with the other boaters.

The Highway 50 project is scheduled to begin in February 2027.
With that date approaching fast, the downtown is preparing for what is expected to be a challenge. The City of Lake Geneva’s Highway 50 construction website is now available at https://www.cityoflakegeneva.gov/349/Hwy-50-Construction.

The information can also be accessed on the city’s homepage through the HWY 50 icon. All the reconstruction details will be at this location, and it is the best source of information and updates.
