SURPRISING STUFF

What the heck does the Department of Natural Resources think it’s doing?
Their big trucks are now acting as regular patrol officers along the stretch of Big Foot Beach commonly called Paradise Road.  They are stopping cars for speeding violations!  Not fishing, animal control, water problems or anything to do with the environment.  Why?  Because they can under Wisconsin law.  Because it’s apparently a lot more fun to sit along that wonderous stretch of road in the summer and watch the revelers playing on the backs of their speed boats maybe?

Riviera Beach and potential ADA sidewalk, options, and accessibility.
City officials are working on making the Riviera Beach accessible to all. ADA compliance does not always mean it is easily accessible. Kapur Engineering firm out of Burlington designed two different options for the city to potentially choose from. Both add additional concrete sidewalks that run through the beach sand creating an entrance and a path to the water. Both options allow those using a wheelchair and other adaptive equipment to enjoy the beach a little more than the current landscape does. Not everyone was supportive and believes a little more needs to be done to make it even more accessible.

A resident and advocate for those with handicaps would like the city and Kapur to go a little farther with a more detailed drawing of the options and allow someone with a wheelchair or handicap to review it more closely. Other residents share support for creating a more accessible beach but are worried about the additional concrete and what that does to the sand landscape of the beach. Kapur is unsure how to make the renderings already submitted more detailed and the city officials are unsure on how to appease the request. The issue will be continued at a future meeting.
