Kwik Trip on Wells is due to open.
This Thursday, September 1st, is the official open day (at 5:00 a.m.!). This Kwik Trip, the new one on Wells Street, wasted no time. Once plans were accepted and permits were in, the construction began. Kwik Trip did a great job with its Williams Street location and the same is expected from the Wells Street store. The convenience that the store, gas station, and carwash provide the community has made the Williams Kwik Trip a daily stop for many. With a second location opening across town, patrons are hoping the congestion spreads out between the two, making it a little less busy for both. Kwik Trip has worked well with residents and city officials to accommodate all requests and has created a much-needed ambient upgrade in visual aesthetics for the Southeast side of Lake Geneva, just as it did on Williams.
Women’s Center at Yerkes.
Her name is Ann Drake, and she’s changing some of the landscape and thought processes around Geneva Lake. Where there were going to be nine lots, or so, pre-sold off to Chicago buyers when the Yerkes Observatory deal went down with the Colemans/foundation to save the Yerkes and all, that deal died, and the sales were reversed. The Williams Bay leaders would not rezone the property to allow single-family dwellings.
Enter Ann Drake, a local woman of considerable wealth. She bought all nine lots from the University of Chicago with no intention of changing the zoning from institutional to residential. Now, she’s applying to build a women’s center. There exist many types of women’s centers around the nation, from centers to help abused women to educational centers to help with family planning. This center, however, would concentrate on the development of women in the culture, educationally and socially. It’s a wonderful thought and, no doubt, with Ann’s capability and money behind it, it has become something of a landmark and noted center of intellect and one of positive advanced thought and action.
Place of the Week

The Geneva Lake Museum, located at 255 Mill Street in Lake Geneva, is a great place to learn the history of the lake. It is also hosting Swift Night Out on Thursday, September 8th.
