August is Lake Geneva Public Library Month.
Mayor Todd Krause encourages everyone to celebrate the 130th anniversary by signing up for a library card, checking out items, and attending the wonderful library programs. The Lake Geneva Public Library, located on the shores of Geneva Lake, has a history that includes a donation of land by Mary Delafield Sturges, a small house serving as the first library, and a building designed by James Dresser, a Frank Lloyd Wright protégé. Mary Delafield Sturges donated the property for the library and an adjacent park to the city.
From 1895 to 1954, the library was housed in a small home on the site. The current library building was dedicated in 1954. The library is also known for its connection to Gary Gygax, the co-creator of Dungeons & Dragons, who frequented the library for research. The library has an “Appendix N Alcove” dedicated to the books that inspired his work.
The Lake Geneva Public Library offers a wide variety of programs, assistance, and fun activities for all ages. This is a great time to check out everything the library has to offer and get yourself a library card.
