City officials and employees get a pay scale increase.
With 2021 approaching, the Lake Geneva city budget must be approved and set into policy, and city officials have been putting pen to paper. The incoming and outgoing funds must be approved before the official budget can be completed. This process includes re-doing pay scales for all city employees and city officials. The city council met last week and considered the wages and the possibility of increases. The city employee pay scale is determined on a three-tier system (minimum, middle, and maximum). The Lake Geneva Personnel Committee recommended all three levels be increased by 2% to ensure all raises are adequate and fair. The elected officials are considered for the upcoming years’ budget with respect to Lake Geneva’s Mayor and Alderpersons. Those positions have not been approved for a raise in seven years and the council voted 3-1 to continue the same pay scale for another year. The issue will not end there, however.

One city alderperson, Cindy Flower, asked fellow alderpersons why elected officials continue to vote no for a raise? Most of the city’s elected officials work full-time hours for the city and the people of it, along with a regular full-time job. So why not approve a small raise? The Mayor of Lake Geneva earns $6,858.02 annually and Lake Geneva Alderpersons earn $4,000.10 annually. Alderperson Flower asked that the topic be added as a future agenda item for more discussion. The item was continued to the Tuesday FLR committee meeting to see what might be done, and then, if an increase is approved, it must be put on the city council agenda to be approved there too.
