SURPRISING STUFF

Buona Beef and Rainbow Cone is finally coming soon to Lake Geneva.
The old Red Geranium Restaurant on Edwards Boulevard is going through some major renovations. The building renovations at first looked like it was going to be a complete gut job with most of the outside structure remaining. Well, if you drive past it now, it is very apparent that only a small portion of the original building remains. The gazebo-shaped portions are still there with the rest completely gone. The footings are ready for a new building to be erected. The Buona Beef company has been working on coming to Lake Geneva for some time with several meetings with city officials planning the process and getting approval every step of the way.

Buona Beef is a family-owned business that began in the Chicago area. The restaurant became an Illinoisan favorite quickly and has substantially grown. The idea of bringing Buona Beef to Lake Geneva was a smart decision for the company as it is well-known and well-liked by those who visit the Lake Geneva area regularly. The Rainbow Cone Company, which is a little less known but still enjoyed by many, will be coming with Buona Beef to Lake Geneva for what is expected to become a local favorite very quickly. Buona Beef has an impressive menu but is really well known for its slow-roasted, perfectly seasoned, and thinly sliced Italian beef. The Rainbow Cone is a Chicago tradition and offers the same five flavors; orange sherbet, pistachio, palmer house, strawberry, and chocolate, sliced and stacked onto a cone or into a cup.

While most residents are excited to see something new coming to this location not everyone in Lake Geneva is thrilled with the extra traffic that’s bound to flood that stretch of Edwards Boulevard. The traffic pattern and safety issues on that roadway have been discussed in detail and safety has been a priority, but Edwards right in that area remains anything but safe (go negotiate the curves between Home Depot and Walgreens and see for yourself). The renovations and building process is far from complete so the real test will be when it is complete and open for business.  Everything is approved so the community must be prepared to live with the results.
