The American Red Cross says that blood and platelet donors are critically needed right now to support lifesaving transfusions this summer.
This comes after the long holiday week mainly due to multiple instances when hospitals needed large quantities of blood for victims of motorcycle and vehicle crashes. More than 200 blood products were transfused during that time, depleting the local reserves. Officials say all blood types are needed, and there is a particularly high demand for platelets. This recent surge in demand has exacerbated an already challenging situation, especially during the summer months, a period traditionally difficult for maintaining adequate blood supplies.
All blood types are urgently needed, and there is a particularly high demand for platelets. Blood donations will be available in Elkhorn at the high school on August 7th from 8:30 a.m. to 12:30 p.m. Then in Lake Geneva on August 9th at the Cove from 12 p.m. to 5 p.m.
Lake Geneva’s comptroller and city’s building inspector are about the only people left with jobs of importance as the new council and mayor have come aboard.
The comptroller may not be happy about that situation as she may feel like she might be next on the list to leave, but then she’s giving no evidence that a state of happiness exists anywhere in her universe. Fred, the building inspector, is built of different DNA. Happy-go-lucky while he works and is well-liked by everyone around. He may survive this complete turnover of sub-leadership purging.
And then there’s Tom Earle. The mayor decided that the city trucks might consider picking up the debris stacked by residents after the last summer storm. Tom didn’t like that idea and it was evident from his expression and posture at the meeting where it was discussed. He finally went along, whatever that entailed, as no formal agreement was either drafted or considered. Todd Krause, however, as smooth and friendly as he sincerely is, runs a tight ship and his ‘subordinates’ will tend to go along with him, when he requests and gives them a good reason to, or they will find themselves moving on to join the others who’ve pretty much-offered proof of principal to Todd’s form of kindly order and discipline.
Todd’s leadership, so far, has been a delight to behold.
