SURPRISING STUFF
The Lake Geneva Piers, Harbor, and Lakefront Committee has been discussing the lagoon and all its needs.
This has been ongoing for some time now, and still, there is no definitive plan on whether the lagoon slips will be replaced or not. The last committee meeting discussed this issue once again. The future of the lagoon and what it will take to get there all depend on the commitment to replace the boat slips or not. Dredging is very much needed as the mass of weeds grows very visible on the surface of the water. The extent of the dredging and the responsibility for the cost depend on this decision.
The city is waiting on information from Kapur and a final decision on slips before dredging is scheduled. A special session regarding slips, including what kind, how many, cost, and then a final decision can be made on yay or nay to the slips. The date is to be announced. A lot of the information will be a repeat of what has been discussed in previous meetings. This meeting will be scheduled before the July 8th meeting so the committee can vote on the issue.
Alderperson Frame was under the impression that the installation of the slips was already confirmed; however, it was brought to light that it was only discussed, and this agenda item never made it to the city council. Also, the chair of piers, harbor, and lakefront Cindy Yager went a step further and while the lagoon is being decided would like to look at the lakefront in its entirety and have some kind of comprehensive plan similar to the city’s comprehensive plan so future issues and needs the lakefront faces can be implemented into this plan. This will include piers, beaches, boat launches, and any other issues regarding the lakefront. Having a comprehensive lake plan makes future projects much easier to plan. This would give the public opportunities to have input on the lakefront’s future, and transparency would be of high importance.
