SURPRSING STUFF

World of Ice may be coming to Lake Geneva this winter.
The World of Ice is hosted by All Community Events out of Lake Zurich Illinois. This will be quite an event if all is approved the event would run from December 5, 2024, through February 2, 2025. This would be a ticketed event vastly growing the number of visitors to Lake Geneva, more specifically Wrigley Drive at one time. The event coordinators are expecting the World of Ice to draw 50,000 to 100,000 people throughout the event. World of Ice is similar to Ice Castles but different and a little less weather-dependent.

The plan would be to have the event on Riviera Beach just like the first year Ice Castle was here and without a doubt was their best year. The World of Ice would erect a beautiful tent like a wedding tent. The tent would be temperature regulated keeping the artistic ice pieces intact. The sculptures will fill the tent and create a magical scene with so much to see and there will even be some interactive pieces. City officials have their concerns and the event discussion on recommendation of approval or not began at last week’s finance, license, and regulation meeting. Concern for the lake was also shared.

All Community Events came prepared and were able to answer questions and reassured the committee that the sculpture is harmless to the lake and is made of frozen water with absolutely no chemicals used. Another concern was the dates of the event as it would overlap with Winterfest. All Community Events was able to respond, as it had already talked with Visit Lake Geneva, and both agreed that the events would work together and only complement the two winter-themed events.

When city officials, most specifically BID members look back at the first year of Ice Castles, the downtown thrived during the event which is typically a very slow time of year for businesses. Of course, there are still some questions on financials and other odds and ends but it looks like this could be heading in the direction of approval.
