How something as radical as the current results of the CPAC meeting can reach right down and touch everyone, even in Lake Geneva.
The conservative blogger from the Daily Wife, a right wing conservative online organization of supposed news, named Michael Knowles delivered a speech at the Conservative Political Action Conference a few days ago. The conference has been a touchstone for the presentation of popular conservative leaders and those attempting to be leaders of the movement. Mr. Knowles delivered a speech in which he called for the elimination of transgender people. He doubled down on that proclamation by stating that it would not be genocide ‘because genetics have nothing to do with them.’
That he made those statements on national television and to so many conservative members sitting before him and was not chastised and sent packing from both the meeting and movement itself is shocking. When someone stands up in America and calls for the eradication of any minority group that person needs to be crushed back out of public life. That the conservative movement, the mass media, and conservative leaders chose not to do that, and Mr. Knowles cruises on just like before, today, is an indictment of those leaders and that movement. Events like this can cascade into something exactly like what happened in Germany before and during WWII. Nobody stood up, no media truly opposed, and the public acceded to Hitler.
But allowing that the public of the time brought death and destruction not just to the Jews but to themselves, right down to the smallest hamlets, towns, and cities. In America today it’s not about the Jews, the transgender people, gays, blacks, or any of the rest of the long list of minorities. It’s about we the people, and if that phrase ‘we the people’ is no longer relevant nor existent then neither is this country.
