The 22nd of May is fast approaching.
Hillmoor Day!  That’s the day targeted by Lake Geneva’s new mayor, Todd Krause, to have the majority of the huge, over two-hundred-acre, plot of wood and grassland open to the public for whatever walking, viewing, gazing, or wandering activities it might want to participate in.  The land has been basically closed for five years, although not chained off until the Whitewater Corporation LLC figured out the city wasn’t going to go ‘quietly into the night’ when it came to its development of it for commercial purposes.  People have still gone onto the land, walked the unmanaged and rough paths, and even camped there from time to time, but that has been at their own risk, from injury, police interdiction, or possibly worse.

The Friends of Hillmoor, under the tutelage and leadership of Mary Jo Fesenmaier (city council member of some seniority and note…she’s city council president), have worked regularly as volunteers to clear some of the paths and roads that penetrate most parts of the land.  Now, everyone waits, to see if Todd can pull off the opening as predicted.

Cinco de Mayo.
This event is celebrated yearly and held on May 5th, to celebrate Mexico’s victory at the Battle of Pueblo in 1862 (the Mexicans defeated Napoleon’s invading army). This day is celebrated not just by Mexicans but a diverse group of those of non-Mexican heritage. The day’s celebrations include an array of festivities including food, music, dancing, parades, and more.

Delavan is always a great place to celebrate Cinco de Mayo. Every year the city goes all out, and the weekend is filled with food, fun, and music. Delavan’s Cinco de Mayo Fest starts on Friday, May 3rd at 4 p.m. and goes on through Sunday, May 5th at 6 p.m. Phoenix Park Bandshell in historic Delavan with have live music and dancing all weekend long. The smells of delicious traditional food will fill the area so even if you are not hungry you will be. This year is expected to be the best celebration yet with the crowning of the Delavan Cinco de Mayo Queen and a grand parade starting at noon on Sunday, May 5th.
