SURPRISING STUFF
There was a potentially dangerous chlorine spill in the tunnel running under Speedo’s Harborside Grill and Fat Cats in downtown Lake Geneva.
On Saturday of this last week the Harborside Grill had to be evacuated, the police and fire departments called, and one employee of the Grill was taken to the hospital for observation after she almost passed out from the fumes. It appears, from rumors pouring out of the fumes of the evacuated places that the owner of Fat Cats allegedly dumped a toxic chlorine solution down a drain and it back up. Pure chlorine gas is fatally toxic if breathed in full concentration for only a short period of time (like seconds). However, the most excellent, timely, and knowledgeable Lake Geneva police officers and firemen responding figured it all out very quickly, making sure everyone was well away from the scene and then irrigated the tunnel and took care of the spill.
It is hoped that they will send a big bill to Fat Cats for their timely and effective work. Speedo is already involved in a lawsuit wherein Fat Cat’s owner allegedly refused to pay a twelve-hundred-dollar charge by Servpro for cleanup of another spill that flooded the Grill’s basement last year. Where does trouble come from in Lake Geneva, usually late at night or in the early morning hours? Think Fat Cat, Thumbs Up, Hogs and Kisses, Champs, and that’s about it. Every night out in front of those establishments people are gathered (using the word ‘people’ loosely here) smoking and just looking disheveled. Does Lake Geneva really need these kinds of old-fashioned dens of iniquity maintaining a lurking presence from midnight to dawn?
