For more than 150 years Lake Geneva has been the playground for Chicago, especially those of the wealthy and famous.
A proposed resort for the deserted former campus of George Williams College on the shores of Geneva Lake has Williams Bay residents thinking deeply about the future of their community. Topography Hospitality of Chicago plans to purchase the 137-acre property that will include an inn with 68 accommodations, two restaurants, and a retreat center, it will create a nature preserve on the land that was previously a golf course which will be “re-wilded” with native species consistent with meadows that were once common in the Midwest and will include grass-cut paths that meander through the nature preserve and down to the shore path.
The village will need to amend its comprehensive plan for the project to move forward.
