SURPRISING STUFF

The giving season is here, and Lake Geneva is participating.
The Lake Geneva Police Department Community Outreach Committee teamed up with Christmas for Kids. Christmas for Kids is a church program out of Elkhorn. The Wilderness Episcopal Church has generously been providing kids with gifts for seventeen years. The families that benefit from this Christmas program are from all over Walworth County. The Christmas bin is in the lobby of the Lake Geneva Police Department and is ready for donations. Almost everything is accepted including gift cards of any kind, books, games, clothing items, household essentials, and food for holiday baskets. Donations are being collected now through November 20th. All items must be new and unwrapped, for a detailed list go to the City of Lake Geneva Police Department’s Facebook page. The holiday season is upon us so now is the time to give from the heart.

What happened to Speedo Condos?
He emerged.  He evolved. He reappeared after several years from a long run as the city’s mayor and ran his business, the restaurant called Harborside Grill on the corner of Wrigley and Broad Street.  Several years ago, the publisher of the Geneva Shore Report convinced Speedo to sit as a commissioner on the Lake Geneva Police and Fire Commission.  He accepted that challenge and proceeded to do an outstanding job, but he didn’t shine there.  No, in addition to that service, he joined the Business Improvement District and was rapidly promoted to the chairman of the board following a fiscal crisis brought about by some previous members of the board.

The BID was broken, in fact, it had a negative balance at the bank.  Speedo took over.  Two years later the bid has a third of a million dollars and has recovered everywhere.  He’s been a veritable ‘wizard,’ bringing back a free Octoberfest and so much more.  The always sold-out Winewalk.  Much more.  This article is a vote of confidence in this special man and serves as a hope that he will be reappointed to the BID when his term is up in January.
