Just who is Halloween supposed to be for?
With Halloween on a weekday this year Lake Geneva has struggled with when to hold trick or treating. When the city first voted on the issue the plan was to have it on its traditional day and time on Halloween night. This did not sit well with everyone. Trick or Treating in Lake Geneva has subsequently been changed, it will now be on Sunday, October 29th, from noon until 3 p.m. Every year the city debates this seemingly simple decision. Most communities follow tradition and hold trick or treating on Halloween evening. This is traditionally how it is done and how Halloween is ‘normally’ celebrated.
Many believe Lake Geneva City Officials over-think this holiday and go out of their way to accommodate everyone’s schedules (mostly those of parents of the children). The businesses also play a role in the city’s decision with their complaints of lost revenue and overwhelming numbers of trick or treaters. The businesses have voiced their preference to hold trick or treating on its original day of Halloween evening while parents with children want it conveniently changed to Sunday during the day.
Some parents have requested Sunday be the day to trick or treating, stating that a weekday evening is just too hectic. Other communities make it work and most parents are willing to accommodate Halloween whatever day it falls on, as it is held on just one day a year, but here in Lake Geneva there won’t be an issue, at least for this year. Lake Geneva leadership caved in and Trick or Treating will be on Sunday afternoon.
What’s wrong with the traffic intersection located at Highway H and 120?
Almost everyone who has lived in the area for more than 15 years remembers the major truck and automobile accident that took the lives of two teenagers on their way to school. A cross was placed at that intersection for several years and many of us remember driving by it every day when coming into the backside of Lake Geneva. That accident was considered a fluke back then, as the Highway 120 road, soon to be known only as ‘The Bypass, had just been completed.
Last week there as another truck automobile accident that resulted in death for the driver of the automobile. The week before that another accident occurred in the middle of that intersection, although involving two automobiles and only minor injuries. We can’t make an intersection safer by adding a traffic light when there’s already a traffic light system operating there. There have been many other accidents over the years at this particular intersection. It is time to have professionals take a closer look at this area?
