No, it sure as heck isn’t a good idea to have the YMCA move from its current intended move location to the Hillmoor property.
Currently, the YMCA is scheduled to move from its current location on Wells Street to a larger plot of land located just off Edwards Boulevard. That move will take it out of Lake Geneva proper and put it on Bloomfield Township property.
Some residents of Lake Geneva would like to see the Y’s finance improve by having the new facility built on Hillmoor property for nothing, but what would that look like? The last thing that Hillmoor needs, to fit it into the new ambiance of that part of Lake Geneva is a big ugly and cheap building with an asphalt parking lot.
Jim Weiss, Town of Linn’s board chairman and politician extraordinaire, is bringing all sides together over the 130-foot pier controversy.
Jim’s plan is to have a grand ‘around the lake’ meeting with representatives of the Wisconsin Department of Natural Resources (DNR), representatives of Town of Linn, Fontana, Williams Bay, and Lake Geneva. Up until very recently, there was a ‘compact’ of agreement around the lake that only allowed for the building out of piers no longer than one hundred feet.
Recently, the DNR approved two piers of 130 feet in length. Jim wants to re-establish the compact and work with the DNR to implement it. Jim did step forward a week ago and tabled any attempt to approve the most recent DNR approval (given to the Lake Geneva Country Club…members who ought to know or act better) and, at the same time promoted a moratorium on the building of any piers until the powers can be brought together to decide on a mutually agreeable path to follow. Weiss is a class act.
