Downtown Lake Geneva’s Annual Oktoberfest is this weekend.
The downtown businesses are getting ready for this big fall event. The residents are excited to attend the fall festival but also bracing themselves as traffic and people will flood the city. Visitors are planning to attend in great numbers as always and have usually booked the weekend when they checked out last year. Why wouldn’t they, Lake Geneva hosts great events. This Saturday and Sunday, October 12th, and 13th, the streets of Lake Geneva will be filled with traditional German festivities for Oktoberfest
This wonderful event is being held mostly on Broad and Geneva Street. Both roads will be closed and filled with live entertainment, traditional delicious food, a beer garden, vendors, kids, activities, and so much more. The event will start at 11 a.m. for the Ribbon Cutting and a major announcement and stay open until 9 p.m., Sunday, and opens at 11 a.m. and closes at 6 p.m. Both days will include the favorite Dachshund and Corgi Races at 12:30 p.m. and the Stein Hosting Competition at 3:30 p.m.
A new addition to the competitions this Oktoberfest is the pie-eating contest. Saturday, October 12th at 4 p.m. the competitive eating skills of the participants will be judged. The Lake Geneva Pie Company will provide the Pumpkin Pie, and the contestants will see who can devour the most. Oktoberfest is one of Lake Geneva’s biggest events and draws many to the area. Be prepared for heavy traffic and dense crowds all weekend long.
To help save some frustration the very convenient shuttle will be running all weekend in twenty-minute intervals. Everyone is encouraged to utilize this service. Parking and shuttle pick up is available at the Home Depot parking lot on Edwards Boulevard and at the city lot on Sheridan Springs Road next to Serve Pro. Shuttles will drop off at the US Bank on the corner of Center and Geneva Street making anywhere in town accessible by foot. The entire family will have something to enjoy.
