SURPRISING STUFF

The death of Queen Elizabeth II has affected not just the United Kingdom but the entire world.
The longest reigning British monarch, spanning seven decades, died at the age of 96. Her reign spanned 15 prime ministers starting with Winston Churchill, born in 1874, and including Ms. Truss (the current newly elected Prime Minister), born 101 years later in 1975. She is also the only queen the public may ever know, as King Charles III is now on the throne (at age 73) and Prince William and Prince George are next in succession.

Tributes have been pouring in since news of her death broke, including all the flags in the United States requested by President Biden to be flown at half-mast until the former queen is in the ground.

Queen Elizabeth went undercover at times, and (anecdotally) during a recent low-key trip to Scotland she was out for a walk and ran into some American tourists who asked if she was a local. She mentioned that she had a house nearby. The Americans asked if she’d ever met the queen.  Elizabeth pointed to her security guard and said “no, but he has.”  Queen Elizabeth is said to have lived her entire life dedicated to her country and commonwealth, although, in truth, what choice did she have?  Now, she quietly takes her place as one of the longest ruling monarchs of all time.

What has happened to customer service?
Almost everywhere we turn in 2022, a vast decline in customer service is evident. Is it because of the lack of employees to provide any response, larger workloads or simply because of a lack of morale in the employees who are at work in this area? During a recent visit to a local business in Lake Geneva, a patron was yelled at, pushed out of the parking lot, and was told to get off the property by an employee of the store.

The patron was looking to buy some supplies on her way to work and preferred to support a local business over a big box store.  The owner of the store (True Value in Elkhorn) was called but she supported the employee. Why couldn’t the employee have simply stated that the store was not open yet and that the potential customer could come back later of wait in the lot? The stress of bills, a heavier workload and long hours puts a lot of stress on all of us, but shouldn’t we be working together not putting each other down?

After this interaction it is evident the upset woman will not be going back to True Value so now that store has lost a customer over something that should not have been an issue at all.  Quite possibly, True Value lost a few more customers from people reading this article, as well. It’s surprising to see places not caring about or supporting patrons because one would think that these customers, and potential customers should be their ‘bread and butter.’

The Lake Geneva Police Department is hosting another blood Drive.
The blood drive will take place on Thursday. September 22, 2022, from 1:30 p.m. until 5:30 p.m. at the Lake Geneva City Hall on the 2nd floor police training room. This very charitable event is a great way to kick off the fall season, which is commonly called the ‘giving season,’ as each donation of blood can quite possibly save up to three lives. Appointments are preferred and can be made by calling 877-232-4376 or going online at visit https://bit.ly/LakeGenevaPDDrive. Before donating remember to eat something first and drink plenty of water.
