SURPRISING STUFF

In 2022, the autumnal equinox (also called the September equinox or fall equinox) arrives on Thursday, September 22.
This date marks the start of fall in the Northern Hemisphere and spring in the Southern Hemisphere. In line with fall the full moon in September is called the harvest moon because it’s the full moon closest to the autumnal equinox. Most places on Earth acknowledge fall by average temperatures as they drop, and the days begin to shorten. Temperature wise, fall is the time of year when the warm stable weather of summers gives way too much cooler and more dramatic weather conditions depending on where you live.

There are many great fall activities to enjoy while celebrating the fall season with the most popular being visits to an apple orchard. The Apple Barn on Sugar Creek Road in Elkhorn is open for apple picking (weekends only) offering a wide variety of apples including Cortland, Holiday, Honey Crisp, and Honey Gold. Then in the next couple of weeks a wider variety of apples and pumpkins will be available along with hayrides, corn maze, changing colors, and of course trick or treating.

Pearce’s Farm Stand on North Walworth Road in Walworth offers fresh apple cider, apple cider doughnuts, lots of seasonal veggies and treats, hay bales to climb on, a corn maze, hayrides, and a pumpkin patch. Hopefully the crisp cooler weather and changing colors will inspire you to get out and enjoy all the autumn season has to offer.
