THE BRIGHT SIDE

New trucks open many more opportunities to help more locals.
With the help of a Food Initiative Grant from the Hunger Task Force of Milwaukee, the Walworth County Food and Diaper Bank is getting a chance to better serve the community. The organization received a refrigerated truck that can transport up to 8,000 lbs. of food per load and includes a lift gate, which makes picking up perishable food items more efficient.

Walworth County Food & Diaper Bank supports more than 12 area pantries. As the price of food has risen, the need for support from the bank has as well. Walworth County Food & Diaper Bank relies on community donations to provide individuals and families with a 10-14-day food supply during each pantry visit. With the grant, the food bank has a new, 26-foot refrigerated box truck, which is valued at more than $150,000. Tammy Dunn, the executive director who started in August of last year, said the grant request pre-dated her time at the non-profit. Dunn said the truck will be especially important this summer when the pantry used to have to transport food using cold blankets vs. refrigeration.

One thing the WCFDB could use, however, is drivers for the new truck. Those qualified and interested in helping are asked to contact Dunn at 262-723-4488.
