THE BRIGHT SIDE
The City of Lake Geneva’s Public Works Committee has been working on updating its brush policy so that the applied policy and the city ordinance match.
This has turned into quite the project, as members of the committee would like to add more services for the residents without taking others away. The City of Lake Geneva does not have enough manpower along to offer brush pick-up year around, which is the biggest concern. The director of public works, Tom Earle, has been reaching out to other local communities, along with the City of Greenfield to see what community policies are and how others handle brush pick up.
The City of Greenfield is very similar to Lake Geneva, with services offered, but it also has a full-time staff to care for its parks. This leaves Greenfield’s public works employees more time to focus on other services for the residents. Hiring a full-time parks staff isn’t on the table for Lake Geneva (although it should be, along with a human resource department) so suggestions put to the committee were to subcontract the brush pick up, hire more staff, or cut some other service, which no one wants to do. At next month’s public works meeting Tom Earle will come back with estimates for subcontracting the work outside of the Department and hopefully a decision and budget will be arrived at to take care of this developing problem.
Stephanie Copsey.
The terrific Lake Geneva Events Coordinator: Stephanie Copsey, is leaving Lake Geneva. Stephanie said that an unexpected and irresistible opportunity presented itself to her in Cedarburg. Stephanie has been with Lake Geneva, mainly the Riviera Pier Complex, for a handful of years and has done a tremendous job working there. She’s brought the Riviera back to life. Before Copsey came along the Riviera was not being utilized at its full potential. Stephanie took the inconsistent random rental of the Riviera and transformed it into a full-time program that’s evolved into renting the space out consistently and regularly, making it a sought-after venue all around the country.
Of course, the renovations were very helpful to that effect, and Stephanie was there through the process, applying her knowledge and eye for what the customer might like to see in the transformation of the ballroom to help with future rentals. Stephanie will do her best to assure that the transition involved in her leaving will be smooth for all the Riviera clients and the staff at the city. Stephanie Copsey will be very much missed by the City of Lake Geneva and all the people in and around the city who have had contact with her. Replacing her will be a very difficult job, indeed.
