THE BRIGHT SIDE

His name is Nathan Bond.
This retired Army Lt. Colonel now serves as the Wisconsin Veteran’s service officer for Walworth County.  His office is in Elkhorn, and he and his staff are simply wonderful when it comes to dealing with veterans, admittedly not always the easiest of ‘customers’ to accommodate.  Nathan’s job is to help vets deal with the Veterans Administration and other organizations to get the most they can in the way of treatment and money.

You walk into that beautiful building, right next to the Courthouse, and it’s a different world.  Each state of the union has veteran service officers.  In Illinois, to even qualify to see one of those officers you have to give them your finances and bank records to make sure you are poor enough to qualify.  Wisconsin is so much better.  If you are a veteran, then you qualify to get somebody as wonderful and equipped as Nathan Bond as your representative.  And he is all of what that word wonderful means, or possibly even outstanding.

Are you in need of some holiday spirit?
You are sure to find it if you get out and around to so many different places around the lake. Santa Cause Tree Festival is a sure bet, so head on over to Gage Marine, now through December 30th. The tree festival is full of Christmas cheer and you can be a part of spreading that cheer to others by purchasing raffle tickets. The beautifully themed trees are all decorated by the Christmas charities and surrounded by wonderful prizes. When you visit the Tree Festival you can purchase raffle tickets to enter into any of the twelve charities of Christmas raffle boxes. One hundred percent of the tree festival proceeds go directly to charities. This is a fun way to celebrate Christmas, have the chance to win some great prizes, and help out some wonderful Christmas charities. Oh, by the way, if you think the raffle isn’t great then reflect on the fact that last year a couple won a two-week trip to Hawaii.

The Riviera washrooms are not open on Fridays, Saturdays, and Sundays, the times when the public needs them the most.
Lake Geneva’s businesses take it in the ear on weekends because of this lying promise made by the City of Lake Geneva when it received millions to redo the Riviera Pier Complex.  The bathrooms were heavily subsidized to make sure that they could be accessed separately from the rest of the building by visitors and residents alike at nearly all hours of the day or night.  This is a failure in communication, that the bathrooms are not open on Fridays, Saturdays, and Sundays, the days and evenings when they are most needed.  This double-speak, delivered by city leaders is the stuff of Monty Python movies.

The city basically shuts down from Thursday night to Monday morning. Why in hell would not everyone want to work for the city with this kind of damaged work ethic.  The police and fire departments are on duty twenty-four hours a day. Are these officers not to be trusted with keys to the bathrooms?  Oh my God, the cops and firefighters might go into those restrooms and bask under the heated hand dryers, or worse.

The Geneva Shore Report is not going to back off on this issue. The residents and property owners paid hundreds of thousands of dollars extra to pay for these bathrooms that would be open most hours of the day and night. They were lied to.  What is the public going to do about this abdication of trust, honor, and the delivery of services so necessary and appropriate?
