THE BRIGHT SIDE
Why is it that Geneva Lake is not surrounded on all sides by real caring and supportive grocery stores?
Check out Spring Grove and their wonderfully huge and supportive Jewel. How about the Sunset Foods place all the way down in Highland Park? The Piggly Wiggly in Elkhorn. What does Lake Geneva have, and why does the area lack both sizeable grocery operations and the kind of loving care these other operations seem to offer? You walk into Sunset Foods, and they are all over you with greeting and service, before you buy so much as a hamburger patty. And the place is selling, as this is written, rib roasts at ten dollars a pound, not fifteen bucks a pound or more like around Geneva Lake.
The Jewel in Spring Grove has ten dollars a pound choice rib, T-Bone, and Porterhouse steaks. “Not” in and around Lake Geneva. So, what is it? Wal-Mart is hardly worth a visit unless buying something bottled or canned. Aldi’s is pretty much the same. Decent prices but not on a lot of stuff that really hits the center of meal service.
After almost a year, Kwik Trip is making progress with its neighbors and city officials.
The 898 Wells Street location was originally a Stop and Go and remained that since the purchase by Kwik Trip. No time has been wasted in making improvements, adding conveniences only Kwik Trip really provides. The residents neighboring the property were, and some still are, concerned about the potential of increased traffic, noise, and lights that might destroy their quiet peaceful neighborhood. City officials have not taken these concerns lightly and have had a lot of back and forth with Kwik Trip on the property layout and business details.
The new development will include a convenience store, gas pumps, and a detached carwash. The precise implementation plan (PIP) finally received approval at last week’s city council meeting. The biggest concern was with the location of the carwash, the entrance and exit location, and the lighting and noise the car wash might produce. City council members, and other committee members, wanted to make sure Kwik Trip was implementing effective sound barriers and disturbing the neighbors as little as possible. Kwik Trip worked diligently with the requests it received and made change after change to accommodate everyone.
The Wells Street location, as well as most of Wells Street, needs improvements to match the inviting, warm, and small-town feel that Lake Geneva is known for. The new Kwik Trip is expected to be a great step in keeping the community feeling intact, with the new building and substantial new landscaping, while also bringing some greenery and color to the area.
