THE BRIGHT SIDE

Wisconsin DOT winter road conditions have updated resources for drivers as winter rolls in.
WisDOT’s Traffic Management Center, located in Milwaukee, monitors road conditions across the state. It provides updated information, so drivers can see when and where roads may be dicey before they head out. The updated categories are normal, partially covered, completely covered, travel not advised, and no report. These replace the previous labels of “good,” “wet,” “slippery,” “snow/ice covered,” “not advised,” and “impassable.”

For partially covered roadway conditions, that means there is snow or ice that covers up to 50% of the pavement. Supposedly the previous system, which labeled roads as snow or ice-covered, could sometimes confuse. Officials believe this information streamlines the categories and will make it easier for drivers to travel on potentially wintery roads.
