THE BRIGHT SIDE

The Ice Castle in Geneva National is taking shape and beginning to look like a winter wonderland.
The castle will include ice slides for people of all ages. Caverns and archways for all to explore and get lost in a maze of ice where fun is waiting around every corner. Crawl tunnels for anyone adventurous enough to crawl on the ice. Illumination Cove is where you walk through a small grove of glowing trees as you make your way from the castle to concessions. Arctic Alcove is where you can book an experience in a private alcove within the castle, perfect for proposals and other special occasions. Whimsical winter characters will be wandering around to greet guests and pose for pictures. To complete the experience are sleigh rides that take you along a scenic, illuminated trail before dropping you off near the castle. Tickets are on sale now at IceCastles.com

The Business Improvement District (BID) met first thing Tuesday morning.
The topic of discussion was the budget along with the hiring of a full-time executive director. The BID has established a budget that follows the same rules and regulations as all the other city committees. Each budgeted item will have its own line and amount budgeted. If any adjustments need to be made the committee will vote to transfer from the surplus which is roughly $45,000 as of the end of 2022. The BID also discussed their events for 2023 including adding an additional wine walk, cocoa crawl, and a special Veteran’s Day event, and murals downtown. The lady in charge of all the events and behind the scenes work for the BID is Alex who came from VISIT Lake Geneva. She was with VISIT for a short while before applying with the BID. She was already a member and consultant for the BID and its sub-committee regarding murals. Alex comes with lots of experience from working with the BID in Kenosha along with helping establish their mural walk. Alex is a great fit for the City of Lake Geneva, and we look forward to seeing what she brings to 2023. Alex is going to be paid $65,000 a year, with very frequent evaluations to see how she’s doing.  The BID, under Speedo’s able leadership seems to be doing fine since Demetri resigned last week.  There’s an air of relief about the board meetings now, that was long needed.
