THE BRIGHT SIDE
A little treasure on the North side of Broad Street that is sure to please true Wisconsinites.
Hill Valley Cheese Bar, located at 512 Broad Street is hosting its first event. Hill Valley Dairy is a cheese bar and shop with some of the cheeses made by its own cheese maker, Ron Henningfeld. Hill Valley is rather new to the area and very excited to share its love of cheese. Hill Valley makes, sells, and serves cheese, accompanied with wine or beer and other snack foods. The cheese bar is a warm place to gather and enjoy great company and a variety of cheeses made right here in Southeastern Wisconsin.
This Valentine’s Day February 14th enjoy something a little different at the “Brie My Valentine” event at Hill Valley Dairy. Celebrate with Hill Valley and Country Meats for a wonderful two-course meal with drinks. The first course will be a charcuterie board filled with a variety of cheeses, meats, fruit, and crunchy things. The second course is a dessert bar with sweet treats served alongside brie. Tickets are available and are $90 a couple. The atmosphere is perfect for a couple or a group. To reserve your spot or arrange for a larger group call 262-684-9524. What a perfect Wisconsin way to celebrate Valentine’s Day
The terrific new restaurant that finally serves the old reputation of the French County Inn so very well.
The ‘new’ restaurant is really an extension of a really old one. Mars Restaurant, located about three hundred yards north of the Getaway, as the new place is called, began the restaurant this year in order to handle overflow on weekends. Mars is that successful and busy, particularly on Friday nights when they offer their fish fry of either perch or bluegill. The Getaway is not a clone of Mars. It’s different, with a more upscale interior, fireplace and more expressive servers and staff. Walking into the place last Friday night for dinner was an experience.
“Smoking or non-smoking,” the maître de asked at the approach podium. “Non-smoking,” I automatically replied, being old enough when such a question wasn’t asked in humor…as it was there…the joke being on me because it took so long for me to get it. Courtland was the waitress, and she was something else again. As entertaining as our entrance to the place yet emotionally much deeper. She was terrific. The prime rib measured two and half inches thick. Yes, the supposed 16 ouncer was 42 bucks, but the monster that it was lives on in the writer’s fridge, its remains being consumed nightly. It’s Monday, as of this article’s origin, and the monster’s bits and grandly flavor-filled bits and pieces are still being consumed. Parking is better at the Getaway than at its 100-year-old parent (Mars). They’re going to put in music but it’s not there yet, In the depth of the cold of this winter try to get a fire place table. Two and a half miles west of Lake Geneva on Highway 50, where the old French Country Inn resided for so many years. You will not be disappointed at all. The drinks there remain like those of Mars, big tubs and decently priced.
