THE BRIGHT SIDE

Hey, all you old people out there.
Celebrate the fact that Wisconsin does not require regular driver testing of older people, like Illinois and so many other states do.  In Illinois, you must go in and get tested.  In Illinois you have to go in and pass a driving test every four years if over age 75, every two years if age eighty to eighty-five, and every year after eighty-five.

It is hard to imagine the amount of trepidation, worry, and anxiety a lot of older, but fully capable, aging people must be going through on a regular basis as a result of this policy.  Like getting old isn’t bad enough!  There are plenty of arguments about the safety of the public that may be applied to the result of this Illinois law, which has had very little impact on crash statistics by the way.  In Wisconsin, regular driver’s license renewal is every eight years, no matter what the age.   If you, as an older person, start getting certain traffic violations (like bad turns, stop sign running, and more), and you’re older (over 70), then you have to go in, attend classes, and potentially be tested for capability.  That would seem to be a better solution to the potential problem, at least in the opinion of the GSR staff.

A City of Lake Geneva Police Department Blood Drive is scheduled.
This drive is set to occur this week, Friday, February 25th, from 11 a.m. until 4 p.m., at city hall on Geneva Street. Blood drives are important, and one donation can save up to three lives. Appointments are recommended but walk-ins are welcome. To make an appointment go to https://bit.ly/geneva225 or call 877-232-4376. The Lake Geneva Police Department is all about the community and keeping everyone safe. This includes community awareness, interaction, and involvement. Be a hero and donate and meet some really neat local police officers when you do.
