THE BRIGHT SIDE

Lake Geneva Boat Line is finally getting the fair treatment it deserves.
Kent Martzke, president of the Lake Geneva Boat Line, has been asking for a longer lease with the City of Lake Geneva since Gage was granted a decades-long lease years ago.  Kent has been consistently granted a lease just a few years at a time. This one-sided treatment has been going on for years and the injustice of it was finally recognized by the city council. Kent’s new lease for the Lake Geneva Boat Line is now a five-year agreement and the Lake Geneva Boat Line will continue to be the exclusive small boat rental operation at the Riviera.

Each year the rent will increase three percent but that will include unlimited launching and retrieving boats from the Lake Geneva Municipal Pier and one parking space in the Riviera Drive Parking Lot. The subject of sub-leasing was brought up by councilperson Cindy Flower and many were surprised by her comments. There have been no complaints or concerns of sub-leasing before, and the lease clearly states it is not allowed. Kent has always used his pier and buoys for his business which does extremely well so he needs all the space he can get. After all was said and done Kent, the city, and the attorney are all very happy with the lease agreement and look forward to the Lake Geneva Boat Line having another very successful season in 2022.

Lake Geneva is lucky to be home to Wisconsin Balloon Decor.
Located downtown, in the heart of Lake Geneva, this business is a premiere balloon operation, bringing balloon art to everyone for special events. All the company’s decor is custom-created and installed onsite, so there’s no stress on how to transport five hundred balloons to create a grand magical backdrop. This wonderful balloon company is bringing the Big Balloon Build to Lake Geneva in April 2023. This charitable event supports the health and wellbeing of children, whether they have a disability or are underprivileged. The Big Balloon Build creates a magical hands-on wonderland for the children to explore. The hopes of the organizers are to bring awareness of the cause and bring the community together to show its support for all the participating children. It will be fun to see what the Wisconsin Balloon Decor has in its future and what the Big Balloon Drop will bring to Lake Geneva.

Ice thickness and integrity on Geneva Lake is always problematic.
Every winter ice fishermen and winter enthusiasts head for the frozen lakes of Southern Wisconsin. Geneva Lake is a big draw for many but for ice travelers, hikers, skaters, and fishermen it can also be the most dangerous. Winter weather is definitely here and ice, to some extent, is on all the lakes in the area. Geneva Lake has had no rescue or recovery missions this season. Delavan Lake has not been so lucky. In the past week or so, on three separate occasions, victims have gone through the ice, and rescues have been made in all three cases. The ice is still thin and dangerous so please be cautious when enjoying ice activities, and never ever forget that Geneva Lake, being spring-fed from below, is by far the most dangerous lake in the area to venture out on the “ice”
