The Bright Side
For a second time, a Conditional Use Permit to house 40 dogs overnight at 846 Madison Street in the City of Lake Geneva will be on the Plan Commission meeting agenda on June 17th, at 6:00 pm at City Hall. The actual request is to board an additional 30 dogs for a total of 40 dogs in the existing boarding facility at 846 Madison Street. This request may be appropriate for the lot’s zoning, but it is inappropriate for the residential area in which it sits. The zoning is left over from when it was along the Northwestern railroad tracks that were abandoned and removed decades ago, which is why that zoning even exists in a residential area. If a similar request to house 40 dogs was in any prestigious or affluent subdivision such as Edgewood, Sturwood or Maple Park, there is no question it would be denied, but 846 Madison street is in an older subdivision and doesn’t have the financial influence of other areas of the city, so it is viewed differently and that is why the Dog Spot was approved in the first place. Hopefully, the city council won’t make it worse by increasing the number of dogs being boarded at this location to 40. A simple question to consider is would you want someone to approve a facility to house 40 dogs next door or across the street from your house?

Just what is going on with this schedule? Why is Hillmoor, and no other tract or business, all over this thing and then in green color, as well? The color was not added by the GSR staff. The Hillmoor operation dropped its lawsuit. Is there more going on here than a sale of the property? Might the Hillmoor people have made an under the table deal with Lake Geneva leadership?
