THE BRIGHT SIDE

Geneva Lake waters.
The lake is the focal point and the crown jewel of Lake Geneva, and most city officials want all to have access to it. Lake Geneva students who are not residents may be granted a reduced price for beach access. Not all students in the Lake Geneva school district are residents and do not get the opportunity to visit Riviera Beach as freely as residents do. Lake Geneva Harbor Master would like to mimic what other municipalities offer when it comes to this issue and grant all students a reduced price for a beach-season bracelet.

The current nonresident pricing for a season pass to the beach is $100.00, and the harbor master would like to offer Lake Geneva students a reduced price of $25.00. These students spend most of their time here, and we want them to feel welcome even when school is not in session, so why not give them access to the beach at a more affordable rate? The Lake Geneva Library is also looking at ways to make the beach more accessible and draw more people into the library.

Not all residents of Lake Geneva want to purchase beach passes through the city, even at an extremely discounted price. Every city household can purchase six beach bracelets for three dollars apiece. Some residents do not utilize this perk as they do not visit the beach enough to feel it is necessary, but would like to visit the beach a few times or less. The library issued a day pass to the beach would work as a first-come, first-served system with a limited number available. The passes would only be given to Lake Geneva residents with a Lake Geneva Library card, and each family would only get six daily passes, three times per summer. This is a very flexible outline of an idea and can be tweaked as needed. This is a benefit as a resident,t especially for those families who are on a tight budget. The Piers, Harbor, and Lakefront Committee approved this fee change; of course, this will need approval from the council.

The Lake Geneva Beach will formally open on Memorial Day.
Formally, means it’ll now be open for ten bucks a person, which is an outrage to many people in the area who remember that no beaches cost money to go to when they were children.  Taxes were paid to support such public things, but times change.  Soon, air might be metered and charged for by the breath!  Walmart has announced that it will be increasing prices by ten to thirty percent because of the effect of the tariffs (70 percent of their product inventory is from China!), yet the government, in response, states that there will be no increase in the inflation rate because of this or other tariff effects.  The war in Ukraine rages on, Gaza is being ethnically cleansed by Israel, and starvation sweeps across most parts of third-world countries as the U.S. stops sending food and medicine to them.  Joe Biden appears to be dying of cancer, the onset of which might just be a relief to him as he gets to watch the world spin in doddering, shaky uncertainty following his term in office. The Chinese have a curse they use over there:  “May you live in interesting times.” These are the times the Chinese expression indicates.
