LITTLE GEMS

Quorum.
What does that word mean?  It means the majority of those in a position to decide for themselves and for others around them.  A quorum of the Lake Geneva City Council would be five since there are eight city council members. However, the law governing quorum gatherings in the State of Wisconsin allows for exceptions for social gatherings, even by one thrown by an attorney firm obviously looking for city-related business, qualifies as being exempt from quorum reporting requirements.

The Gardiner Law Firm party was a blatant and obvious attempt to encourage the City of Lake Geneva to give it business, but the quorum rule does not apply, any more than that gift rules, simply because snacks and drinks were free for everyone, and no one was denied entrance.  For those complaining about those ‘rules’ being waived, and there were a few, the phrase; “lighten up, Francis,” taken from the movie Stripes, applies.

Wisconsin State Statute 19.82: “(2) ‘Meeting’ means the convening of members of a governmental body for the purpose of exercising the responsibilities, authority, power or duties delegated to or vested in the body. If one-half or more of the members of a governmental body are present, the meeting is arguably presumed to be for the purpose of exercising the responsibilities, authority, power, or duties delegated to or vested in the body.

The term does not include any social or chance gathering or conference.”  No quorum rules applied to the String of Pearl’s gala attendance two weeks ago either.

Village Supper Club.
This wonderful and beloved restaurant closed after fifty-five years in business. Owners Chris and Dave Marsicano have loved being a part of the community and carrying on the family business, located at 1725 South Shore Drive. The Village Supper Club served its last fish fry this Friday, which is a bittersweet acknowledgment, as it has served over a million such fish dinners in its time. The Marsicano brothers have worked hard long hours 24/7 and through the pandemic. The brothers, and the rest of the family, had a lot of input and hard work in making the restaurant run.  They are all looking forward to spending time together and kicking back a bit.

This is very well deserved because the Village Supper Club has always given back to the community, and likely most popular was the annual complimentary community Thanksgiving dinner.  That was a huge benefit to the community and in helping the Village Supper Club build its wonderful reputation. The Village Supper Club closed for the last time Sunday, September 12, 2021, and will be very much missed.

The business has been sold and, but the identity of the new owner has not been revealed yet, leaving the future identity and plans for the supper club full of potential, but also many questions.
