LIVING HERE
The City of Lake Geneva is launching its own municipal newsletter.
The Lake Geneva Municipal Minute. The LGMM will come out on the 1st and 15th of each month and include information about projects, upcoming events, important services, and the people who help make our city such a special place. The first edition of The Lake Geneva Municipal Minute is now available on the city’s website. It includes a letter from Mayor Krause, the Highway 50 construction website information, current and future construction, a list of city meetings, meeting the staff, and more.
The Geneva Shore Report applauds this effort on the part of the city but truly and deeply wonders if the city has any clue about how hard it is to continuously keep an audience interested and reading today? Where are the writers, and please do not indicate that regular people can convert to that overnight. The GSR also maintains a hard copy version of the newspaper, which it does not appear that the city is going to run with, at least for now. The objectivity of the city running its own news outlet is another area of contention. Can the city be objective about itself? Can the city admit when it is wrong right out loud, like the GSR is doing in this issue on the front page? As an example of the interest that is necessary to be generated to actually operate a newspaper, just how popular is the city’s current website?
Finally, is this not in keeping with the current national leadership of the USA? Just how factual and honest, much less interesting, have Truth Social and X been? Is the result the city is seeking something a bit tepidly less than what those two supposed ‘news’ outlets have delivered? Only time, work, and money will tell how this effort works out, and it will be another area for the GSR to report on. No matter what, however, the GSR wishes the city luck. A lot of it.
