OUR PLACE
Storm cleanup continues in Walworth County. The Journey Disaster Response Team has deployed volunteers to survey and clean up storm damage throughout Walworth County all week.
The Disaster Response Team (DRT) was formerly Journey Disaster Response Team, an all-volunteer 501 (c) (3) organization that exists to serve those in need before, during, and following a disaster or emergency. The team is set up at Immanuel Lutheran Church at 700 N Bloomfield Rd in Lake Geneva. It will be there throughout the week, helping residents with damage assessments and home cleanups, and delivering food and water to families still recovering.
Volunteers are going door to door, knocking on doors and assessing damage to make sure every family gets the help they need. They are helping neighbors by removing trees from their yards, providing food and essentials, and anything else that needs to be addressed. The Journey Disaster Response Team is also seeking donations of the following items to assist people in crisis: food/fuel gift cards, rakes, brooms and shovels, work gloves and safety gear, 42–52-gallon trash bags, ropes and bungee cords, bug spray, sunscreen, tool loans and wheelbarrows.
There’s still a lot of work to do, so if you want to volunteer, the Journey Disaster Response Team will be stationed at Immanuel Lutheran Church in Lake Geneva during their response efforts. Help after the storm. It has been just over a week since the storm that tragically left some families changed forever, and some who have extensive cleanup and property damage. There is help out there. This is a volunteer center offering help with debris removal and other storm-related cleanup tasks. If you are interested in volunteering, call 262-308-1105. Donations are very much welcome for this effort, including trash bags, gloves, food, water, and other items that may help.
