The Fall Wine Walk is this Sunday, November 1st.
The Downtown Spring Wine Walk was a sold-out event from the start, so it was only obvious to add a second wine walk to the annual calendar; the Fall Wine Walk was created and is another sold-out event. The Business Improvement District (aka Downtown Lake Geneva) hosts both walks. Fall in Lake Geneva is a special time of year, and the Fall Wine Walk just adds to the fun. Participants will enjoy sipping different wines throughout downtown while getting a start on holiday shopping. This is a great way to enjoy time with friends and family and ignite your holiday spirit.
What are the new ‘Evil Twin’ companies of Apple and Microsoft getting together to do to us out here, the supposed owners and operators of their hardware and software products?
A few weeks back, these two companies got together and decided that older Macs, those made and sold before 2016, would no longer allow the use of Microsoft products (unless the older Mac has a pre-sold stand-alone version of Office still on it, then it’s exempt from the freezing, although it will no longer be updated).
Now, to have Office on a Mac, you have to buy a new Mac and then pay monthly for the new Office. How damned convenient in these tough times. A minimal iMac machine costs just over two grand, and the new Office is about a hundred and eight bucks a year or up to two hundred and fifty for multiple computer usage. Meanwhile, without the new computer and Office for Mac, all the stuff you have in Word you can only access by printing it out, which can be loathsome and damned inconvenient to print and then manually input into the new computer and Office package.
Are these companies rotten to the core? Yes, they are, but they’ve sort of become a monopoly, and we all know how that goes. America, the land of the free, as long as you can pay, and pay handsomely. Do not take your laptop with the old Office still on it and working and do anything at all. You just won’t get updates. If you click on an offered update, then your old Word freezes up.
