SPEEDO…LIVES AND FIGHTS ON!
What are Lake Geneva and the surrounding communities supposed to do with this volcano of Greek fire who will not be put down or shut up? He’s been mayor three times and recalled once, not because he was wrong about something while serving as mayor and on the City Council of Lake Geneva, but because he was painfully right. Publishing the Geneva Shore Report carries enough pain for such damaging revelations that the editorial board completely understands.
Speedo, who currently sits on the Police and Fire Commission as chairman and also is totally committed to making his small but vitally important and located restaurant located at the strategic and tactically import point where Wrigley Drive turns and heads north to become Broad Street, has taken on the dual school boards, neither of which is dueling but could gain the results of such a duel if they don’t open up and give the man the data he is requesting of them. Like a line from the movie Butch Cassidy and the Sundance Kid, analogously used here: “Who is this guy, anyway?”
The truth is that he’s a hardworking, indefatigable troublemaker of the best kind. Always searching, always ‘on patrol,’ if you will, and generally right about things. Speedo is not currently making open accusations of foul play on the part of the school board leaders, or Peter Wilson in particular, but he’s making both district leaders and board members most uncomfortable by revealing certain things never really discussed in detail before.
Things like:
- Why the administrators of the schools are issued gas cards when the teachers are not, and what those cards are really used for, since nobody ever discusses them.
- Where is the audited accounting for the last pile of revenue raised by a public referendum?
- Why is another referendum requested by the financial director of the schools for more operations funding just after the superintendent and he personally received substantial salary increases?
Speedo is not really named Speedo at all. His given name is Spyro Condos, but Spyro in Greek is pronounced as “Spee-roh.”, although American English spelling did conversion so its citizens could remember to address the man oratorically or verbally without reference or study.
So, what happens with the schools and Speedo’s Freedom of Information Act request? Good news. The superintendent responds, yes, Peter Wilson comes through big time. He not only responds but compliments Speedo on requesting it so the entire potential scandal can be revealed and put to bed because there is no wrongdoing going on.
The Geneva Shore Report has tried to support Wilson, as he comes across as a great man and has an air of real quality about him, not to mention high intellect. Of course, that’s news in a note format, not in the actual response in writing of all the numbers, identities, and information requested. Responding to a comprehensive FOIA request can take quite some time, trouble, and expense, but in this case the time and money spent will be for a really good cause. To finally make a decision about the board and Peter Wilson is vital to the well-being and future of the city’s children and those of the communities around the lake.
Way to go, Speedo, and you too, Peter Wilson.
